Trade Talks With Turkish Sister City Moving Forward PDF Print E-mail

 

  SJNN - Milwaukee – Milwaukee Area Technical College hosted

a meeting to discuss international trade between Manisa, Turkey

and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The two cities agreed to become Sister Cities and both Milwaukee Mayor, Tom Barrett, and Manisa Mayor, Bulant Kar, are eager to sign off on the sister city agreement.  Esperanza Unida, Inc. was instrumental in the effort.

 

“Our Mayor wishes for me to express our deepest respect and our happiness to be Sister City of Milwaukee”, said Mr. Ali Katioz, a businessman, representative of the Mayor of Manisa, Turkey, President of The Manisa Foundation for Science and Culture and Member of the Manisa Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The meeting at MATC was organized by Robert Miranda, executive director of Esperanza Unida, Inc. and sponsored by MATC, the Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board and Alderman James N. Witkowiak.

Mr. Katioz gave a power point presentation to the group pointing to opportunities of trade with Manisa. He focused on green technology indicating to the group that Manisa became a green city long before it was on the minds of many city leaders around the world.Alderman James Witkowiak, who visited Istanbul, Turkey early this year with Robert Miranda, welcomed the Turkish dignitary and reiterated the economic opportunities both cities are about to engage in.

“We have a great opportunity to open new markets with a friendly nation that is situated in an area fast becoming industrialized,” said Ald. Witkowiak.
Dr, Darnell Cole, MATC president said, “The educational opportunities for our students and those from Turkey will benefit both nations as this trade movement grows.”

Robert Miranda informed that group that Esperanza Unida, Inc. will soon be opening a solar panel training center with the cooperation of a solar panel manufacturing company in Izmir, Turkey.

“We are lucky to be able to engage in dialogue with representatives of a solar panel company seriously looking to collaborate with Esperanza Unida in training, assembling and distribution of solar panels in Milwaukee,” said Robert Miranda.

Manisa Mayor, Bulent Kar, accepted an invitation by Milwaukee Mayor, Tom Barrett, to join him in signing the sister city agreement in Milwaukee.
Mayor Kar accepted, but is unable to schedule a visit to Milwaukee until mayoral elections end next month
